Faith groups have been stepping into chaotic scenes, trying to help Ukrainian refugees navigate their way to the UK. In this Religion Media Centre briefing, volunteers describe the “tortuous” visa route as they helped people fill in forms and matched them with families in the UK. The briefing was told that 200,000 people in the UK have volunteered to house Ukrainians in a show of compassion that could mark a cultural change in attitudes to refugees. Ruth Peacock hosted this event with guests:
- Greg and Clare Thompson, from Love Bristol Church, calling in from Polish border
- Dr Krish Kandiah, founder of the Global Sanctuary Foundation
- Rabbi Jonathan Romain, who set up ‘Ukrainetransport’
- Jude Levermore, Head of Mission for the Methodist Church
