The Lambeth Conference is a meeting of Anglican bishops from around the world that is held about every 10 years. The Anglican Communion comprises autonomous but interdependent member churches from 165 countries representing nearly 100 million Anglicans.
This year, Bishops from Rwanda, Nigeria and Uganda are refusing to attend on grounds of doctrinal error, while six bishops are refusing to join because their same sex spouses have been denied an invitation. The Communion’s position that same sex marriage is not permissible, is back on the agenda, alongside calls for reparation for slavery and debates on great concerns of the day – climate change, war, migration and persecution. Rosie Dawson hosted this discussion with guest speakers:
- Bishop Anthony Poggo (South Sudan and the Anglican Communion’s secretary general designate)
- Bishop Emma Ineson (England)
- Bishop Samy Shehata (Egypt)
- Bishop Eugene Sutton (USA)
