The newly created British Muslim Trust has been appointed by the government to monitor anti-Muslim hate crimes across the UK, engage with affected communities and publish regular public reports.  It was founded by the Randeree Charitable Trust and Aziz Foundation, and the CEO is Akeela Ahmed. Daniel Singleton, CEO of Faith Action which pioneered Faith Covenants, says they should dovetail with the new Civil Society Covenant, recently launched by the government. He hopes there will be resources for funding future ‘things like Faith Covenants’, space to disagree on policy, clear roles on all sides and mutual trust. He is on the advisory board of the new Covenant scheme >>

Ceasefire in southern Syria after days of violence between Druze and Bedouin in which 1,000 people were killed, tests historic tension between the two communities. Read an explainer by Ruth Marks Eglash here.

Conservative MP Danny Kruger has warned of the ‘chronically precarious’ state of the country, saying Britain has moved away from its Christian roots and is at risk “economically, culturally, socially and morally”. In an adjournment debate in the Commons, on the future of the Church of England, he warned that abandoning one religion creates a space for others, naming Islam and “a new, unnamed ideology blending paganism, heresy, and modernism”, which he said was “deeply dangerous”. He spoke to an almost empty Commons chamber >>

The Bishop of Southwark, Christopher Chessun, told the BBC about the accident last autumn in which his face was smashed to such an extent that his doctor told him “your face is cornflakes”.
