Religion Media Centre is on Substack!

We’ve been making exciting moves over the last few weeks, transitioning to Substack to deliver our regular emails and other content. Substack is an online platform for designing and publishing newsletters, articles, podcasts, videos, and more – and as it is becoming a key space for independent journalism, we hope to expand our audience and improve our content in the process.

Here’s what you need to know

If you’re already on one of our mailing lists, you’ll still receive the emails you’ve subscribed to by email without any action required on your part, but now you’ll also have optional access to an easy-to-navigate hub where you can revisit past newsletters and news roundups, find more of our other content, and stay connected:

  • The content of our emails will be unchanged – informative, independent journalism.
  • The emails will look similar, but we will be improving overall design.
  • Emails have an increased chance of going to your spam/junk initially as a result of delivering from a new platform, so please do check there and mark as safe if needed.

In the unlikely event of an error where you stop receiving emails from us over the next few weeks, you can resubscribe manually by visiting religionmediacentre.substack.com and entering your email.

Why we’re making the switch

On Substack, our emails become more than just emails!

  • Revisit past newsletters, news roundups and updates.
  • Read, listen to, and watch other RMC content.
  • The optional donation feature will help support our ongoing work, and we do encourage you to donate. But rest assured that all our content remains free-to-access for all.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for your continued support, and please share our Substack with people you know who might also be interested.

Frequently asked questions…

Do I need to create an account on Substack myself to keep getting Religion Media Centre emails?

No. If you’re already receiving our emails, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll still receive the same emails in your inbox, just like always – no new login required. In the unlikely event of an error where you stop receiving emails from us over the next few weeks, please check your junk/spam, or you can resubscribe manually by visiting religionmediacentre.substack.com and entering your email.

What’s the benefit of having a Substack account?

If you do decide to create your own free Substack account, you’ll be able to bookmark past newsletters and news roundsups, like and share content, get push notifications via the app, see more of our content, and find similar Substacks that might interest you.

Can I read the newsletter without checking my emails?

Yes. Just visit religionmediacentre.substack.com to read our content in your browser, or via the Substack app on mobile. Please note that we will be publishing content on Substack from 26 January 2026, so there won’t be any content to see there immediately.

Is this just a way to make me pay?

Absolutely not. The Religion Media Centre and its content remain free. We are an independent charity, aiming to help the media report religion, and that will never change. We do, however, have an option for you to become a supporter on Substack for a small monthly donation, which is a way to help us with our unique and important work. Free subscribers and paid subscribers have access to exactly the same material. Thank you to those who continue to support us in any way they can.

I have more questions – who do I contact?

You can email [email protected] anytime if you have further questions or requests.
